Alexei Sensei

Sensei Alexei Goudkov was born in 1961 in Sakhalin Island on the Pacific side of Russia (formerly the Soviet Union) near Japan. Sensei Alexei has been involved in Martial Arts since 1976, when he started to learn Soviet SAMBO (literally Self Defense Without a Weapon) at The School of Militia (approximately the same as the Justice Institute of British Columbia - Police Academy). Living so close to Japan and being a member of a special program for learning combat martial arts in the Police School, Sensei Alexei was introduced to Japanese Martial Arts such as Judo, Aikido and Karate. Two years later when Sensei Alexei left Sakhalin Island to study at the Moscow State Technical University he was certified as a Hand-to-hand Combat amateur Instructor.

Sensei Alexei's first martial art teacher was Sensei Viacheslàv Khorkhordin. Sensei Khorkhordin gave Alexei the sense of the martial art and encouraged him to learn the martial art in deep. After being with Sensei Khorkhordin Alexei made the decision to never give up practicing martial arts. Since that time Alexei has thought Sensei Viacheslav Khorkhordin as one of his most influential martial arts instructors.

In 1979 Alexei was introduced into Kyokushinkaikan society by Vladimir Slutsker (another influential instructor). Sensei Slutsker gave Alexei courage and opportunity to find out knockdown fight and to fill what we call a Kyokushin Spirit or the perseverance.

In December 1980, Alexei got his first Kyokushinkaikan belt 7-th kyu from Shihan (then Senpai) Alexandr Taniushkin, the only IKO branch chief of the USSR.

From 1981 to 1990, karate was forbidden by law in the USSR. It was illegal to learn or teach karate unless teaching special government services. During that time, Sensei Alexei had been doing so as an amateur instructor with The Russian Police.

Sensei Alexei has also worked as a lecture at the Kama Politechnical Institute. This has helped him to teach Martial Arts not only at his own Dojo but at a Justice College in Russia.

Since 1987, Sensei Alexei has traveled extensively around the world (Great Britain, Hungary, Canada, Russia and Japan) and has trained with some of Kyoukushin's top International instructors, such as Hanshi Steve Arneil, Kancho Yoshikazu Matsushima, Shihan Roman Szyrajew, Shihan John Taylor, Shihan Hiroshi Masuda, Shihan Jeff Whybrow, Shihan Alex Kerrigan, Shihan Nick DaCosta, Shihan David Pickthall, Shihan Istvan Adamy and Shihan Daniel Gauthier. Sensei Alexei would like to thank them enormously for the time they have spent on him and the Kyokushin experience they have shared with him.

Alexei earned his first Kyokushin black belt from Shihan Alexander Taniuszkin in 1994.
In 1996 he received the 2-nd Dan from Hanshi Stive Arneil 8-th Dan (now 9-th Dan).
In 2002 he received the 3-rd Dan from Shihan Roman Szyrajew 7-th Dan, and
in 2006 Alexei received 4-th Dan from Kancho Yoshikazu Matsushima.

Besides being taught by the top Kyokushin instructors, Sensei Alexei has a Diploma of Karate Instructor from the State Committee of USSR of Physical Education and Sports.

Sensei Alexei also holds a Certificate of the International Karate Judge from IKO Matsushima Honbu (headquartered in Japan). He has been selected as a judge for the 2006 Karate World Cup in Australia.

Sensei Alexei has not only learnt the Martial Arts but more importantly he has given his knowledge to other people around the world. As an instructor of Kyokushin he has given clinics and seminars during summer and winter camps at Folkestone, Hyth and Canterbury in Great Britain, Volgograd, Voronez, Kazan and Sakhalin Island in Russia. Sensei Alexei has been privileged to teach students at Shihan Roman Honbu in Montreal.

As a result of all his teachings, Sensei Alexei has coached a champion of the 1995 Open European Knockdown Tournament, (Cardiff, UK,) Kumite and Kata champions of Canada, USA, Russia, Tatarstan and Turkmenistan among adults, juniors and children .

Since Sensei Alexei's started coaching, ten of his students have graduated with black belts by the top international Kyokushin instructors such as Hanshi Steve Arneil, Kancho Yoshikazu Matsushima, Shihan Roman Szyrajew and Shihan Alexandr Taniushkin.
